Here’s the interesting stuff that’s crossed my transom this week, many of which were read on the flight back from EuroOSCON:
- Common Census–thematic mapping of the US showing the influence of cities across space. Very interesting maps as a result.
- Wikipedia on Search Engine Optimization–interesting background as well as advice on how to do it without Being Evil[tm].
- 10 Tips to a Better Form–HTML and design advice.(update: fixed URL)
- 50 Essential Topics on Economics–a list of pointers to articles on various aspects of economics.
- One True Layout–CSS tips on solving some of the holy grails of page layout.
- Javascript Database in the Browser–store data as JSON but get an SQL api to query it. Uses AMASS and TrimQuery.
- Tutorial on Building a Firefox Toolbar–Javascript only, but still good to know.
- MIT and Nokia Form Nokia Research Center Cambridge–20 CSAIL (MIT) researchers and 20 Nokia Research Center researchers, HQ in Cambridge, MA. Focus on UIs, power consumption, and the semantic web.
- Patent Claim around XML–“Scientigo claims that it holds two patents covering the concept of formatting data in a self-defining package to ensure correct display irrespective of the data’s location”.
