Not Just Dual Boot…

Daniel Steinberg writes on the O’Reilly editor’s list a single word review: Cool!. Following the trail of links (reportage of reportage), I eventually get to the source: Parallels has announced a Mac/Windows virtualization solution for the Duo. It’s available now for beta download. Note that I haven’t tried this yet, as I don’t have an Intel-powered Mac. (I’ve been waiting for just such a solution.)

Brian Jepson added: “This is pretty amazing. You might also want to check out QEMU. They have a universal binary available, but because Parallels uses virtualization, I think they will be much faster than QEMU. (QEMU uses dynamic translation. Although they do have an accelerator for x86 on x86 emulation, AFAIK it hasn’t been ported to the Mac.) Still, QEMU is free–if anyone has an Intel Mac and is willing to give this a whirl, I’d love to hear your thoughts on it. You could either install an OS from a CD or ISO image, or just download a preconfigured OS from FreeOSZoo.”

So…we haven’t tried any of these products, but I imagine some of our readers have, and would love to hear your experiences.
