League of Technical Voters

This weekend (Oct. 13-15th) in Austin, Texas, a group of Drupal developers are gathering to write code for the benefit of non-profit organizations:

The goal here is to quickly implement some new features in Drupal. These modules will be of use to many nonprofit organizations, and in particular will help kick start the League of Technical Voters web interface. The League of Technical Voters is an organization based on the idea that geeks, who are not often politically active, can be a powerful force for change for the better. These tools will be used to help bring politicians, geeks, and the media together in an effective manner.

Open source development is all about coding for the good of humanity, but we often lose sight of the greater social impact of that work.
