You Witness News

I love the idea behind You Witness News (and the name!), the new Yahoo News page that uses Flickr photos and user-submitted videos to document news events. As I said last year, I often, if not usually, find better photos of breaking news stories on Flickr than I do anywhere else. I'd love to see news sites making many more steps like this. Instead it seems like most newspaper sites are spending all of their time trying to cram the web back into the print layout format they prefer, which seems ridiculous and backward to me. Go Flickr and go Yahoo News for taking the lead again. (Disclosure: I know several people at Flickr.)

I don't see enough credit for the originators of the news in the service. Other than that, the idea is good.

Someone else trying to take publishing forward and taking full advantage of web content is Monkey Mag (http://www.monkeymag.co.uk/c/landing) - WARNING some adult content. It may be in the popular format of a lads mag, but the ideas behind it from Ceros Media (http://www.cerosmedia.com/) are on the mark.
