Unitus Looking for Bay Area Fundraising Director
Diana Reid, who I first met when she was running developer relations from BEA, is now the VP of Donor & Investor Relations for a Redmond and Bangalore-based nonprofit called Unitus, which, according to their web site, "fights global poverty by using a venture capital model to increase access to microfinance. We provide high-impact funding and consulting to the highest potential microfinance institutions (MFIs) in developing countries worldwide in an effort to alleviate world poverty."
That's a worthy goal, so when Diana asked via LinkedIn for help finding a new director of Bay Area fundraising, I offered to blog the job posting. From the position summary:
The candidate will have a true passion for fundraising, world affairs and social development, and a knack for making people feel comfortable....The Fundraising Director will also serve as the main "face of Unitus" in the region; attending industry conferences and networking events, coordinating and/or hosting Unitus fundraising events, and building strong relationships with key donors, corporations, academic institutions and complementary nonprofit organizations.
So, if you know lots of rich people, and have a passion for separating them from their money for good causes :-), this might be the job for you.

If you gave/created a method for Unitas which allowed them to connect the people needing micro-finanacing with the average American - they probably could dispense with asking for money.
You'd need loan officers on site to validate the applicant, translators to put their application on line, and a method for monitoring and reporting the result of these small loans.
Then again, a lot of people who don't understand the program would complain that we should just give them the money - and trash the system in the process.
