ETech Insider's Guide

ETech starts tomorrow. If you’re going here are some last minute tips about the schedule, events and logistics.

Bring your open-source gadgets! We are going to have sessions on OpenMoko (the OS phone), IPRE (an OS, educational robot), and the XO Laptop. Plus we will have an OS Hardware talk from Phil Torrone and Limor Fried. The best way to participate is to have your device with you.

If you have feedback for us (about the event, the sessions, or especially if there is a technology or speaker we should include next year) there are several ways to get it to us. First and foremost, feel free to email me or talk to me in the hallways (I may not be able to respond right away, but I am very interested in your thoughts). We’re going to be sending out links to a web-based survey later in the week; one attendee will get a free Dash (the Internet-connected GPS) for filling out the form. Finally, I am going to be holding a Feedback BOF on Wednesday night. Come on by and we’ll talk about the conference this year and the ones to come.

We’ve added a scheduler to our conference site. If you are logged in (and you created an account when you registered) you can select which talks you’re interested in with a click. It will let you select more than one talk per time slot. After doing this you have your own page and webcal feed.

Check out the evening events. We have something different every night of the conference. On Monday night, there’s AppNite (an hour of new Facebook and OpenSocial apps), Tim’s Annual Radar keynote, and topped with Ignite talks. Tuesday night we have a Sponsor reception, followed by the EFF Pioneer Awards (with Michael Robertson keynoting), and the evening will end with a party thrown by Disney. Wednesday night begins at 7PM with Larry Lessig’s evening keynote, the Emerging Artsfest follows immediately. After the Artsfest Johannes of Monochrom is going to give a performance on Soviet adoption of technology.

Play Werewolf. Werewolf is a social game where players are randomly assigned teams of werewolf and villager. Through the game you’ll try to defeat the other team and along the way you’ll get to know a lot of the other attendees. If Werewolf isn’t your thing consider throwing your own BOF (you can sign up in the conference lobby).

If you tweet, follow ETech. If you tag, tag with “etech” or hashtag with #etech. Join the ETech Facebook group. Check the conference wiki for other updates.

Finally, if you haven’t left yet bring an extension cord. We put out power strips amongst the seats, but they can fill up or be just out of reach. It’s much easier to get power out of a full strip if you don’t displace someone else.

See you soon!
