Photos, Photos, Power, and Pretty:
- Wikimedia Commons -- huge selection of public domain photos. Mindboggling how painful the hierarchical interface is to use vs a simple full-text search. (via Pete Warden)
- Power To The People: 7 Ways to Fix The Grid, Now (Wired) -- To fix the grid, then, we don't need another layer of oversight. We need to tweak the system so that companies are rewarded—not punished—for investing in the grid. (via Freaklabs)
- Great Photographs of the Economic Crisis -- Slate project to build a Flickr pool of photographs documenting the economic crisis. This Depression's Dorothea Lange will be a Flickr pool and not a person.
- Little Red Riding Hood -- The Animated Infographic is another gem from Flowing Data. I've embedded the video below, see the link for the backstory.

One important trick to navigating Commons is to always immediately scroll to the bottom of a topical page and view the full Category. Otherwise you're probably missing a lot of good photographs.
Thanks for the mention Nat! Ed is right, there are some CC as well as PD images in there, I should have mentioned that more prominently.

OK, so it's splitting hairs, but... while all content in Wikimedia Commons is freely licensed, it is not all specifically public domain.
