Jared Diamond at Fort Mason Friday night

Stewart Brand sent out the following email announcement about the latest Long Now seminar at Fort Mason:

Like Darwin, Jared Diamond is a field biologist who changes people's minds about fundamental matters.  He did it in 1997 about the course of civilization in GUNS, GERMS AND STEEL, and he did it again this year with COLLAPSE, about the ecological fragility of sophisticated societies.  That will be his subject this Friday...

Jared Diamond, "How Societies Fail (& sometimes succeed)," 7pm (doors open), Friday, July 15, Cowell Theater, Fort Mason, San Francisco.  The lecture starts promptly at 7:30pm.  Admission is free ($10 donation very welcome, not required).

If you would like to be notified by email of forthcoming talks in the series, please contact Simone Davalos--- simone AT longnow.org, 415-561-6582.

I loved Guns, Germs, and Steel, and am very concerned about the issues raised in Collapse, so I'm very much looking forward to this talk!

Jared Diamond is Geography and Physiology professor at UCLA, not a "field biologist".
