Open Source Business Readiness Ratings
OpenBRR.org is a Zagat-like site for the accumulation of ratings on the readiness of open source software for corporate use. As initially rolled out, the site contains a white paper proposing a ratings system, and some discussion forums to refine the proposal. The proposed rating system rates the corporate usability of open source software in 12 categories, including usability, quality, security, documentation and technical support. The brainchild of SpikeSource and the Carnegie Mellon West Center for Open Source Investigation, the initiative is one more signpost on the road that open source has taken from the hacker fringe into the mainstream of the technology business. And, like so many other initiatives these days, it is fundamentally about creating value by aggregating the intelligence of a networked community, so that idea too is showing its face in the corporate mainstream.

How does one leverage or take advangae of BRR information? Is there sufficient data collected for initial corporate benefit?
Thanks,
Mike
Dear Mike,
Thank you for your posting.
BRR is now still in RFC 1 (Request For Comments 1) period. At this time we are trying to validate our model with the community. Our effort is congregated in a forum in http://www.openbrr.org/index.php?option=com_forum.
We invite you to check out what have been discussed so far, and we would love you to contribute.
BRR calls for the rating to be fully open, meaning if the rating is published, the data must be published as well to ensure trusted and fair
assessments. This means anyone can use the data.
We have some data that we have gathered in the past few months. Unfortunately these data is mostly raw, and not yet crystallized for
public consumption. Once we feel that our model has been well validated by the public, we
will start making our data available according to the requirements of the model.
I hope this helps,
Openbrr Admin
