Why dont you make a videocast of the Conference and sell the download as a podcast paid content for those people that cant make it, I for one would love to see it but can't be there.

i guess O'Reilly can do this, especially for a SOLDOUT conference -- you don't want to always make paid podcasts available -- that will make some people NOT want to attend the conferences.

+1 -- I am also willing to pay, say, upto 10% conference fees for getting access to the content.

IT Conversations will have most/all of the conference sessions online. And I'm sure there'll be the usual ocean of folks in the audience with iPods. If you can't make it, between blogs and the amateur coverage, you should be able to follow along at home.

As one of the organisers for the event mentioned above, maybe it might be interesting for people here to see what our thought processes were.

We were very excited to be able to podcast almost all the sessions at WE05. We were also affirmed in this choice when every single one of our presenters, all of whom make at least a bit of their living from speaking, not only said yes, but were really enthusiastic about the project.

Of course, we made this decision after we had sold out, and there is the concern that the fact it was podcast this year may effect people's decision to come next year. But I do see this as "old thinking", both on our part, had we let it change our decision, and certainly on the part of anyone who decided not to come for this reason alone.

We see the podcasts as part of the process of what we're really trying to do with WE conferences: the presentations are of the highest standard, but, the whole event is *so* *much* *more* than the presentations. Australian developers are geographically dispersed, and even further away from the wider world of developers. And there are so very few opportunites to feel that buzz you get from hanging out with other clever people who are into the same things as you are. So at the moment we see the podcasts as a way of building buzz about our conference, added in with blogging

Whether we're brave or foolish here? - dunno. But there's certainly no harm in trying this one IMO.

Hope I haven't done the wrong thing by going on here Tim: as much as anything I do so as so many of your thoughts about openness are an inspiration to me that I hoped it might be appropriate.
