Freedom to Connect
There have been many disturbing signs of the emergence of a two-tier internet, with proposals that various classes of application get preferred connectivity based on backdoor deals. David Isenberg and Jeff Pulver have teamed up to organize a conference in Washington D.C. April 3 and 4 to raise awareness of this issue. It's called Freedom to Connect, and like previous David Isenberg conferences, it will be small, highly interactive, and with a stellar cast of speakers. If you care about the future of the Internet, this will be a very worthwhile event. It's a good opportunity to get the voice of the internet community heard in Washington.

We're not quite ready to "announce officially" but it is very likely, almost certain, there's going to be a "Bar Camp" (Tim approves, btw) immediately following F2C, from dinner Tues 4/4 thru Wednesday 4/5. We're finalizing a space we can use. If Bar Campers, or some subset, want to go to the Hill to talk to our Sens and Reps, that would be a most excellent way to self-organize!

It's a great idea, but why on earth gather all those people in Washington, DC, and not have a co-ordinated day of lobbying? If you go to Washington to talk federal politics and don't pay a call on your representative or senator, it's not an optimal trip.
