I continue to be unbelievably impressed with Etsy (which is sort of an eBay for handmade items) and how creative they are in building their community. Their latest move made me giggle hysterically because I was so happy about it:

A couple of months ago, Etsy leased its first ever commercial space in Brooklyn, NY. Being the creative folks that we are, you know we would never be satisfied with some depressing, cubicle-strewn, scheisse box of an office in Midtown. Instead, we decided to find a space that will not only serve as Etsy HQ, but that will also be a communal creative space where we could offer resources, support, and classes to our users and the DIY community at large.
It will be home to parties, trunk shows, seminars, workshops, a lending library, and all other sorts of fantastic things. It will have a silkscreen press, a letterpress, film, music, and video production facilities, jewelry making stations, sewing machines, sergers, and so, so much more. We will call it the Etsy Labs, and beginning with a small opening party on February 1st, its doors will be open to you.

That is so brilliant. O'Reilly saw how amazing it can be to bring people together at the Maker Faire -- this is bringing people into the Etsy world in order to make them into makers. Awesome!

[Full disclosure: since I last raved about Etsy, some friends of mine have invested in it, but I continue to rave wildly about the site based solely on its superamazingnessity.]

I love etsy, I buy way too much on that site. I also sell on etsy and find it really rewarding. It isn't my career but a great creative outlet that I reap a few rewards from here and there when someone actually buys something. Prior to etsy, my creative endeavors simply gathered dust or filled closets. How many pottery pendants or tote bags does one person really need? It's great to see etsy mentioned anywhere in the news. Thanks.

Etsy is a great marketplace! It is not only full of incredibly well crafted work at prices too low to be believed, it is also a joyful and playful shopping experience. The developers of Etsy are responsive to the community. They attract creative people because they are so creative about how the site functions. I'm happy on etsy because I feel I'm in good company. Excellent vendors and products and incredible user interface for the shoppers. I think these guys are geniuses for creating new ways for shoppers to see merchandise that are easily accessed and understood by shoppers. These people are so cool I even find myself wishing I lived in NYC so I could participate in all the fun at EtsyLabs!

I just learned about Etsy from a friend of mine. I have been selling quilts on eBay, but without much luck. People often don't want to even pay you enough to cover the cost of materials. I am looking forward to selling on Etsy since it is a site for handcrafted items only. I wish I had heard about it sooner!

I love Etsy - everyone I've referred to loves Etsy too.

I love browsing through all the handmade goodness...

I am so happy about my sales on etsy as well as all of the fun and creative people that I've "met."
I am really impressed with how the etsy staff is able to keep up with the incredible growth of the site. The 2 millionth item was just sold, and while it took about 2 years for the first 1 million items to sell, it only took 4 more months for the 2nd million to sell.
I am proud to be both a buyer and seller on etsy and am amazed at the creativity to be found there.
