Where 2.0: Done, Google Dev Day, WhereCamp & Mapping APIs

Where 2.0 has completed! And it was a great success. We had over 800 people. We heard from tons of speakers and we generated a lot of news. The excitement was palpable at times and every so often a speaker really surprised me. Honestly, I am a bit tired. I have many blog posts queued up to about Where 2.0, expect them to trickle in over the next couple of days.

The geoweek is not done by a long shot though. Tomorrow, Google is holding their associated Developer Day. They will talk about Mapplets, KML 2.2, Google Gears, their OpenSource efforts and more. The Bay Area session is currently full, but if you wish to check out some of the sessions they will be webcasting it live (london starts in four hours). In time videos will be put online.

This weekend there is a Where 2.0 attendee-created conference, WhereCamp. It's going to be the first geo-unconference. Based on many of the discussions that I heard at Where 2.0 it is going to be a lot of fun. I will be at both of these events and would love to hear feedback on Where 2.0. Also feel free to leave a comment on this post or to email me (my firstname at oreilly.com).
graph

Inspired by Where 2.0 ProgrammableWeb has published a breakdown of the 44 mapping APIs that are currently listed on the site. These 44 APIs power over 1100 mapping mashups. As you can see from the graph, 44% of all mashups involve mapping. Amazing stuff, I can't wait to use the Where’s Tim API -- oh wait that's Hibbard, not O'Reilly.

The dates for the Where 2.0 2008 have not been decided yet, but let me assure you we will be holding it again next year. See you there!
