Good quote from Learned Hand
I've mentioned my "quotes file" from time to time. Here's one that I just added, from famed American jurist Learned Hand:
"The spirit of liberty is the spirit which is not too sure that it is right."
I came across it in a New Yorker profile of Barack Obama, which describes him as "the conciliator."
It's worth thinking on.

The rest of the quote is good too: "the spirit of liberty is the spirit which seeks to understand the minds of other men and women."

Great quote. I also love quotes from Thomas Jefferson.
"Educate and inform the whole mass of the people... They are the only sure reliance for the preservation of our liberty." - Thomas Jefferson
Thomas Jefferson was a great American.

This is also a great quote. http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/authors/t/tim_oreilly.html
"Empowerment of individuals is a key part of what makes open source work, since in the end, innovations tend to come from small groups, not from large, structured efforts." - Tim O'Reilly

Not sure why, but after reading that, the quote that popped in my mind was:
"Do not take counsel of your fears."
I had to Google it to find out it was Patton. I thought maybe it was Churchill. Maybe it's the self-encouragement as a counterpoint to self-doubt.
