Small Business Bets Big on Technology

Small Business Bets Big on Technology, says the New York Times, reporting on a survey released yesterday by Hewlett-Packard. I was interested to see this report considering that I had made a similar observation a week ago in my posting on Book sales as a technology tend indicator.

I had reported on the fact that sales of books on Excel and Quickbooks were up relative to the first quarter a year ago as a possible indicator that small business activity was picking up. The HP survey focused on the idea that small business is investing in technology, with a focus on “retaining customers and streamlining operations as their top objectives, and technology as the means to achieve them.”

I didn’t call it out in my article, but the recent success of Wiley’s Salesforce.com for Dummies, which appeared on Amazon bestseller lists immediately upon its release, would also support the contention that the intersection of small business and technology is a place to watch.
