Google Web Accelerator

And now comes the Google Web Accelerator. Be sure to check out the FAQ. I can't help but think of Mr. Burns from The Simpsons, planning to block out the sun so that his nuclear power plant can supply "electrical lights and heaters running all day long!"

My proposed business model for Google Web Accelerator: replace all those Gator -- err, Claria -- ads with Google ads. Turnabout is fair play, after all! Eggscellent.

While your insight about business model may be true, I made another guess.

Okay, just to be totally clear, the Claria thing was a joke....as was the blocking out the sun part.....

I agree that Google likely wants data. No surprise there. But I also think the gut reactions people are having to this are worthwhile and valid. There's a good set of questions you should ask before installing something like this. Is it really worth it?

What I don't understand is why this technology - minus the spyware - is not a standard part of all browsers?

The accelerator has been getting them some bad feedback from webmasters about privacy and how it impacts server load:

There's already a script to block it - according to one forum it is causing clicks on PPC links too.
