EuroOSCON: Latest Program Updates

I just added Tony Wasserman and Murugan Pal to the EuroOSCON lineup, talking about the Business Readiness Rating that CMU West developed with SpikeSource, CodeZoo, Intel to give industry an idea of the ease in which a given piece of open source software could be used by business. When I was asked to give comments on this before it was released, I said it was an important first step but that it needed a much wider public discussion. I’m happy to be able to give Tony and Murugan a platform for part of that discussion.

I’ve also asked the ever-fantastic Autrijus Tang to talk not about Internationalization in Perl, but instead to talk about PUGS. PUGS is an amazing achievement, not just technically (though implementing the futuristic Perl 6 in the science fictiony Haskell earns Autrijus major brownie points and nerd karma) but socially. Parrot didn’t have a huge development community, and Autrijus built a new community through his use.perl.org blog and by force of technical skill and social leadership brought even more people to the Perl 6 development world. It’s thanks to his implementation, in particular, that there are actually programs written in Perl 6 running in the wild–a milestone that seems to have largely gone unnoticed. Autrijus is still scheduled to speak about Haskell–I figure any language powerful enough to easily implement Perl 6 needs to be on everyone’s radar. (PUGS session, Haskell session)
