MySpace Launching Music Label

I pointed to the Wired article on how MySpace generates hits. Now MySpace has announced they’ll launch their own music label (in collaboration with Interscope Records who have Jimmy Eat World and 50 cent on their roster). They are targeting the independent and unsigned artists whom MySpace can make into stars, as well as compilations of music from established artists. “MySpace Records: Volume I” will be a compilation of MySpace users’ most popular tracks, and will be on stands November 15. It will be interesting to see whether they use their “teens who like X also like Y” knowledge to build kick-ass compilations. They’ve also signed their first artist, Hollywood Undead.
