It's Not New Media

Like everyone who has BitTorrentted, I knew things were going to change for the TV and movie industries. The recent iTunes announcements and own-site experiments (and mis-steps) aren’t surprising. But this isn’t the old-media new-media apocalyptic battle some predicted: the media’s still the same, it’s just the distribution that’s changing. One of my favourite thinkers about distribution and new ways of bringing the interactivity of the web to the television experience (excuse me while I avoid the “interactive television” phrase that still gives me a dull migraine) is Mr Coates. Highlights: distribution, more on distribution, and social software for set-top boxes.
