A great performance and operations blogAnybody interested in web performance & operations should read Todd Hoff's High Scalability blog. When it becomes clear you must grow your website or die, most people have no idea where to start. It's not a skill you learn in school or pick up from a magazine article on a plane flight home. No, building scalable systems is a body of knowledge slowly built up over time from hard won experience and many failed battles. Hopefully this site will move you further and faster along the learning curve of success. Some of my favorite posts include Scaling Twitter and Log Everything, All The Time. Todd is doing a great job spreading knowledge and (hopefully) reducing common growing pains. Check out the site and please keep sharing your stories. |

Sorry, this post kept appearing and disappearing because I was editing to add a cool image from the Control Panel flickr pool.

Looks like a great blog for techies. Unfortunately he provides very little info on marketing, which is the key to any websites success.
Of course a techi could argue that, saying it's all about the content. We should all be composing great content that everyone loves, but unless you already have a big name (O'Reilly) you need to know how to market your website.
I've seen thousands of very pretty sites with 100% valid code (means nothing to SE's) that got little to no traffic.

I guess you don't allow comments from marketers? The comment was factual and now it's gone.

Hi Josh, I disabled the comment because it looked like spam. I've restored it.
There are many resources for people to learn about marketing a website, and very few which teach how to survive successful marketing. Marketing isn't the key, it's a key to building a successful company.

Hi Jesse, I'm not sure how it looked like spam but of course you have the right to do so. Thanks for restoring it.
There is some truth in your statement:
You're correct that it is not THE key, but without successful marketing, you have no visitors equally no money.
But, there really isn't a lack of good marketing info out there, there is just an overabundance of bad ones.
