Ubuntu: Word on the street
I'm sitting in a Starbucks in Redmond, Washington (Microsoft HQ) and one of the customers just approached the guy emptying the trash and started explaining a problem he was having with his upgrade to Feisty Fawn. The guy set aside the trash bag and walked the guy through the solution to his problem. The customer said, "Thanks, I'll try that tonight!" Talk about grassroots evangelism. By day, mild-mannered Starbucks chain manager, by night, the Ubuntu crusader, complete with earth-colored tights and cape.
I wonder how long it'll be before I walk into a pop-culture movie, and see an Ubuntu desktop featured on the oh-so-stylish main character's desk.

The last time I went through security at the airport a TSA screener asked me how I liked my iBook and OS X.
Then he started telling me how he'd just installed Ubuntu, and how cool it was!
What about Chloe fighty about what's better looking.. Ubuntu or Mac Os X in Smallville

Quite a while, I'd guess, unless Canonical spends some buck$ for product placement, or unless the movie is deliberately looking for 'geek cred' (because *of course* Bryce uses Ubuntu in Tomb Raider 3).
The latter scenario is almost certainly disqualified under the 'stylish main character' requirement. Similar variations can be imagined for any movies in the same genre as 'AntiTrust', 'Hackers', 'Sneakers', 'The Net', and so on, and should also be disqualified.
For Ubuntu to make an appearance in something truly mainstream like 'You've got Mail' will take years.

Now you just need to go hang out on the Microsoft campus and listen for people talking about Fesity Fawn setup hints there.
Reminds me of the time I saw a guy walk up to a fellow who was sweeping the sidewalk in front of a supermarket and ask about the virtues of SCSI vs IDE.
